Konsyl Helped Me Go . . . To Washington! By Jennifer Snyder, Registered Dietitian and Licensed Nutritionist Recently I had the opportunity to participate in Tour DaVita, a three-day, 250-mile cycling event in Tacoma, Wash., to raise awareness and funds for the fight against kidney failure and chronic kidney disease (CKD). CKD is a silent epidemic, affecting nearly 31 million adult Americans; more than 360,000 individuals suffer from kidney failure and are currently on dialysis.
The chance that an American adult has CKD is almost as high as an American woman’s risk of getting breast cancer. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recognize CKD as a major public health problem that not only reduces the quality and length of life, but is also expensive to treat.
To participate in the tour, I had to raise $750 in donations and pay my own travel expenses. Konsyl was a big supporter, donating $300 to the cause. By race day, Tour DaVita had 400 participants who raised more than $700,000 for The Kidney Trust, a nonprofit organization with the mission to reduce the human and economic cost of chronic kidney disease across the United States.
To be among a group of people so dedicated to this cause was truly inspiring. A big thank you goes out to Konsyl for allowing me to reach my goal and for supporting such a worthy cause!
