Enjoy the Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Last Days of Summer

Back-to-school sales are underway, but hold on! Summer isn't over yet. In fact, Aug. 1 is the halfway point for this season that ends Sept. 21. So make sure you and your family enjoy the remaining six weeks to their fullest.

Turn off the television, put away the video games and go outside. Walk, bike, swim, run, skip rope, throw a baseball, or kick a soccer ball. Do these activities with family members to create lifetime memories. But keep an eye on the weather, especially the heat and thunderstorms. Move inside to a gym, shopping mall or indoor pool if bad weather threatens.

Be sure to drink enough to stay hydrated. Plain water is usually sufficient. New research suggests low-fat chocolate milk aids in recovery and offers more nutrition than sports drinks.

Because of the economy and high gasoline prices, some families are enjoying staying at home or taking day trips. This is a great time of year to learn where
high-fiber fruits and vegetables come from.
