Gluten-Free Diets and Konsyl
For patients with celiac disease who must adhere to a gluten-free diet, Konsyl fiber supplements are a safe choice to increase dietary fiber.According to the US Department of Agriculture standards, psyllium is a dicot. Psyllium fiber is the only ingredient in Konsyl and, as a dicot, is not related to wheat, rye and barley which are monocots. Monocots are the problematic plants for individuals with celiac disease (gluten intolerance). Peptides are found in monocots which are harmful to persons with celiac disease.
Konsyl Original is gluten-free. Konsyl Orange is also safe for celiac patients. The flavors are plated on a modified food starch matrix and a gum; and the starch is derived from corn. Corn is usually acceptable to Celiac's patients.
